Hairy thermoform?
The final version of Yolette includes 6 parts: the body, one red and one black wheel part, the completed insert, the thermoform, and the retaining ring. A gold nut attached to the central shaft completes the yoyo.

A key feature of our yo-yo is the "double shot" method we used to manufacture the roulette wheel.  As shown in the series of images, we created red and black parts using one mold, that then fit into another mold to get the gold wheel face. By using this method, we were able to create a single piece of plastic that contained 3 different colors, allowing us to create a stellar representation of a roulette wheel. However, our journey to create this yo-yo was not without challenges.  A major challenge we faced was the discovery that the body part shrank twice as much as we were expecting.  This caused the dimensions of all of the internal features to interfere with the body.  To resolve this, we changed the retaining ring mold, and used an unorthodox procedure to fit the wheel insert into the bodies.  We produced hot bodies, and then placed cool roulette wheels into them immediately.  Then, we placed the entire assembly into an ice bath to cool it down.  This allowed a press fit between this parts, while if we had waited for the bodies to cool, the inserts would not have fit. Other challenges we faced included combustion of the body parts, solved with adding air holes and tuning parameters, warping of the inserts, solved by placing pressure on them, and underfilling of the red and black parts, solved by adding additional runners, among many other bumps in the road.  Here is a link to our Updated Table of Specifications

Some areas open to improvement include the incomplete coverage of the rings by the gold plastic, the weld lines on the body parts, and the unorthodox procedure of assembling the insert into the body.

Continuing with our analysis of the red/black parts, we measured the thickness of the part in Paper Deliverable 4. We found a high level of process capability in our production, reaching 2.38 in our production of the red ones.
